Kratom Strains Explained

Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) is a tropical deciduous and evergreen tree in the coffee family. Kratom Science has gathered information to help you learn about the different strains and discover which one is right for you.

Bali kratom is commonly known as “premium commercial” quality kratom. It is the most well known kratom on the internet.

Maeng Da has been historically used for various purposes, but many find its energizing, yet still relaxing, properties to be most the unique and beneficial.

Red Kratom strains feels a lot like a traditional kratom. They are highly regarded for their pain relieving attributes. Maeng Da is known as one of the best examples of a premium red strain.

White kratom strains generally have the full range of kratom alkaloids. As a result, these strains are regarded for their noted euphoriating, stimulating aroma.

Green strains are notorious for their distinct ability to combine the pain relieving properties of a red strain with the energetic boost of a white strain. Bali is the most well known green strain.

Many kratom extracts are a reformulation of a classic kratom strain. They are a potent alkaloidal extract of kratom thats reapplied to powdered leaf. This results in a significantly more concentrated version of kratom.

  1. Do you know that approximately five million people in the US use kratom for various purposes? Five million is huge! But why do they use kratom?Kratom is a unique medicinal herb that serves multiple benefits. The research says that from pain relief to help with opioid withdrawal, people use it for several reasons.

  2. Be careful as kratom has side effects like every other drug and especially like opioids and what it does to your digestive track. Make sure you are AWARE of what the strain does for you and how much you take. It’s easy to get stuck in that revolving door with kratom as well. IF you want to make the best choice, then use Kratom as a stepping stool so you can reach a platform you can work from to further yourself from addiction.

  3. Hi there I too am looking for a strain that will help with opiate withdrawal does anyone know which one I should order I have the red Borneo but I don’t see that one on many of the other sites and I seem to be taking 2 teaspoons of it I need help does anyone respond to these questions???

    1. Maeng Da, or a white strain will be good for withdrawals. Personal experience, the Kratom won’t offer much relief until day 3-5. Hulu is another strain that I find to be powerful and effective as well. Good luck!

      1. Green or gold Maeng Da worked great for me. The only problem is that I’m now strung out on the Kratom and have been for over a year. If you use it for withdrawals I suggest you only take an amount that will keep you from feeling your worst. And then less and less as the withdrawals subside.

        1. Omg no ugh my heart is still racing 8 hrs later the clerk suggested Maeng Da having already tried the Red Borneo I am a 20 yr addict opioids, methadone, subs u name it the red Borneo worked wonders the mageng da to me was way to speedy.

    2. Hi Trish, I just came on here for the first time or I’d have answered your question. I’ve been using Kratom for three years and nine months and it saved my life. I took it to get off suboxone which I took to get off ten years of taking methadone for pain. While I was doing this I didn’t know that I was also in heart failure (likely due to the years they left me on the methadone) but the withdrawal I’d literally the worst and can last up to two or more years. If I hadn’t taken the kratom my heart would probably have failed completely-killing me. I have been clean ever since- no thanks to any doctors-who would have let me die. But I started with green Bali but any green will probably be fine. Any of it will work. And ALL is better than not using it! It helps with pain, restless legs, body agitation, all the withdrawal symptoms. I no longer use pain medication for my chronic pain. I use my Kratom. Start with less unless you need more. If you feel nauseous, use less. Start at maybe a teaspoon of Kratom to any juice, tea, chocolate milk (which kills the yucky taste the best, believe it or not-or use it to chase it). I boil nestea or Lipton sweetened lemon ice tea and add my Kratom to that so it steeps for a few minutes- or you can take the capsules (but they suck to get down. They are what I started with.) you can add it to anything that works for you. It can and will get you off what you are addicted to as long as you want to. I’m proof of that. Good luck… you can do this!!! 👍🏼

      1. Super green Meing da great strain. I suffer from a genetic blood disorder my joints are always hurting my lifespan is not going to be a long one. I find my head a lot clearer if I do Kratom. Some days I need it some days I don’t. I don’t know how they do it but I can live now.

    3. Probably put really any strain Into capsules and do it that way and get good results. Also Maeng Da would be my recommendation For daytime, I would take a good red vein strain in the evenings/bedtime. Red Bali, red Borneo, red Horn, red indo as well. Then take 3 to 6 of them and start there. Kratom is a natural safe therapeutic, pain relieving, anxiety and depression helping, mood elevating, mental focusing earth made medicine. In my opinion this should be used in opiate addiction recovery. Been sober for 6 years now. Built a family had our son, got a career, and bought a nice house in those 6years of being sober!!! :))) Before finding Kratom I tried everything to help fight the opiate demon. I was homeless 6 years ago due to addiction. Then one day I stumbled across this wonderful Plant Mother Earth made to help Us humans ;D My experience with opiate addiction and The process of the withdrawal/detoxing of your body is a horrible deathly sickening dangerous experience to go through. That’s why people get stuck in a opiate addition cycle due mainly to the sicknesses withdrawals cause. Definitely was one of the most difficult battles in my life for me, Physically, mentally, emotionally, and personal/social/family impacting. Kratom was a god send to help battle my 10 year addiction. Kept my mind, body, and wellbeing together during the process. I wish addiction clinics or even rehabilitation centers would use this to control the horrible deathlike withdrawals opiates induce. Just my random opinion…good luck you can conquer the opiate demon. Much love!

Any info on using Kratom to help with ending Xanax and/or Ambien use? I’ve been prescribed both for well over a decade, and I am using Kratom to taper off of these prescribed downers. And I can’t help but to wonder if the “white” strains of Kratom can be used to replace ephedrine?
        Thanks to ANYONE in advance!
