Learn the most popular ways people are using kratom

There are a few popular methods of using powdered leaf, but the most common are with capsules or tablets, “toss and wash”, mixing with food, and preparation as a tea. The following is a guide to help users discover their favorite way to enjoy kratom:

Kratom Capsules and Tablets

Kratom capsules have become one of the most common ways people now use kratom. You can find pre-capsuled kratom in almost any head shop in the US while some choose to buy empty 00 or 000 capsules and capsule their kratom for themselves. 

It’s important to note that 00 capsules are much better suited for kratom extract (due to the necessary dosage concentration of approximately 1/2 a gram to 1 gram. 

000 capsules are better suited for regular kratom powdered leaf. The increased size allows them to hold up to 1 gram of leaf per capsule, minimizing the amount needed for a regular dose.

Toss and Wash

“Toss and wash” is basically just spooning the powder directly into your mouth and washing it down with a liquid. Kratom is known as a diuretic and is associated with dehydration. It is important when using this method that you hydrate. This could be with your favorite sports drink or you can just stick with water. The word hydrate comes from the Greek word for water, so its hard to find a better hydrating beverage. 

This is commonly known as the most “difficult” method but is the quickest in a pinch and arguably gives some of the strongest effects.

The downside to this method is that the powder is incredibly dry and will stick to your mouth and throat, causing many to gag or cough “blow” the dry powder out of their mouth. If using this method of consumption, it is best to spoon small amounts at a time. 

Mixing Kratom With Food

Kratom can also easily be mixed into a food.

Other good suggestions include mixing with chocolate almond milk or chocolate protein powder.

Keep in mind that kratom has a strong flavor and may not mix well in certain foods. Also, you will not reduce the efficacy of kratom if you take it with small amounts of food or any of our recommended recipes.

Kratom Tea Preparation

Lastly, preparation as a tea is convenient and effective. 

It is important to note that only powdered leaf should be used to make tea. Extracts should not be used.

Start by measuring out between 1 teaspoon of powdered leaf. Using an extract is not recommended, as the hot water may break down some of the alkaloids, there’s no added benefit, and it’s more expensive. Boil 2-4 cups of water. The more water you use, the less strong the flavor, but as long as you drink it all the effects will be exactly the same.

Put the kratom powder into a large cup or container with a pour lip, and pour the boiling water on top. Stir until it is thoroughly mixed. Be sure there aren’t any clumps of dry powder. I highly recommend adding sugar, artificial sweeter, or honey (honey works the best to cut the bitterness), and stir. If using artificial sweetener, 2 packets is a good starting amount. Let sit until cool (at least 15 minutes), stirring occasionally.

Once cooled, allow the powder to settle to the bottom. Pour the tea into a drinking cup, and enjoy! At this point you can add more sweetener to taste, or add water or ice cubes to dilute the flavor. As long as you drink all of the liquid, the effects will be the same.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 spearmint teabag
  • 1 chamomile teabag
  • 2 teaspoons kratom
  • sugar, honey or artificial sweetener to taste
  • 1 teapot (I use something like this)

Double/triple/etc. the quantities to make a bigger batch.

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a kettle.
  2. Put both teabags and kratom in the teapot and pour boiling water over top.
  3. Let it steep for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Remove teabags.
  5. Put teapot in fridge and let it sit overnight. Kratom will settle to the bottom.
  6. In the morning, slowly pour the tea into a glass. Be sure to stop pouring once you notice the plant matter is about to come out of the spout. There will be a layer of kratom sludge left in the teapot—just dump it down the sink.
  7. Sweeten tea and drink! (I like to use two packets of Sweet’N Low.)

    Hello good people of this fine site.

    I had been hesitant try Kratom I am about to try it for the first time, I have bought some “white Vein” 500mg (60 capsules) from Sunstone organics in Pleasant hill, OR.

    Please give me any kind of advice as I really do not know anything about this.

    The reason I want to use it is to see if it can help with my insomnia and excessive tiredness that I feel lately
    It’s like all of a sudden I’m just out of energy and out of sleep, I know that most of it is in the mind and I need to work on that too.
    I have used weed at times and it helps at nights and coffee helps in the morning but I don’t want to become addicted to either one, I have been hesitant to try kratom because I fear it may create some type of addiction.

    I’m in my second year of researching Keaton. I have lost over 100 lbs. And have not had a cigarette in just under 2 years.
    I am a toss and wash type. It works with my lifestyle and ADHD. That said…I recently steeped a new strain with a green tea bag, fresh lemon and local raw honey.
    Whoa. I felt like I did the first few months I got acclimated with kratom. Almost too much at first. Was it the tea? Was it this new strain? Wa it the quality of the product from my newest vendor? (And it is quality!)
    All three would be my guess. But I can say as a newer veteran, steeping any botanical is going to unleash its strength. Past that? Have fun. Take notes. Feel better. On tour bodies’ terms. That’s what kratom is all about.

    I mix 8mg (about a spoon full) with 100mg or less of water. Mix in a small jelly jar. Put the lid on and shake the crap out of it. Let it set about 5 minute for the foam to go down. Take the lid off. Swish it around to knock down any remaining foam then tose it down the hatch. I use orange soda to chase and kill the taste then a big tall glass of water. Was wondering about preparing a few days worth at a time but have no idea how this will keep or if some kind of bad bacteria might form?

    I find if I put the dose in the bottom of a glass, pour some Hershey syrup (for making chocolate milk) on it and mix it until the kratom is absorbed into the syrup. Mix it well, it takes a minute or so for it to get all mixed in. Then add in my milk, stir and drink! Taste is not bad at all and you only notice a little texture.

    The easiest method for me is using 2oz jars.
    1 Measure out 3 to 3-1/2 grams into each jar
    2 Add 1/4 cup boiling water
    3 Mix well
    4 Add V8 Splash (I like mixed berry)
    5 Close lid and shake
    6 Keep in fridge for later use

    I can measure out 2 weeks worth at a time and prepare them for the fridge 3 days at a time. It really takes a lot of prep time off my hands and keeps me from panicking if I have a sudden attack of pain and can’t handle Doug the prep one dose at a time.

    Thank you for all your great advice, I have chronic pain and no energy. I take opiates sparingly so I resort to mainly suffering. I was on prednisone short term for a sinus procedure and I was so happy I felt normal again and then found this page. I will definitely give this a try I need to start with Red Bali, I need pain relief and energy. Any other suggestions ?

    I’m trying this for the first time. I get strong panic attacks. I got the powder cuz I felt it would be more effective. My Dr. Took me off clonazepam after 20 years. Cuz they found cocaine in my urine. Any suggestions on dosage and best way to consume it.

      Don’t know if you ever got the answer you were looking for but when I started taking Kratom I would use a table spoon of the powdered leaf in boiled water like a tea. I bought a tea press so I would get less grit when drinking it. If you need to add milk and sugar like you would with tea in some cases it will help with the taste. It is a very strong earthy taste similar to Green tea. Much stronger though. The effects can take some time to kick in.

        Drugs affect people differently especially with underlying mental health concerns for example I have adhd/anxiety and stimulants put me to sleep. If I drink a big coffee I get sleepy before bed.

        Heather, I have anxiety attacks due to PTSD however Coke mellows me out bc I am also a very hyperactive person. Its like street adderall for some of us. But weed can give other panic attacks to some as well. Its all about ones chemistry

      Green maengda is the strain you want.reds just dont have that panic attack reducing effect atleast for me anyways.the green maengda will literally erase my panic attacks even when im having horrible ones were im curled up in a ball hiding under my blankets in the corner of my room cauee i just feel soo trapped and restless.try 4-6 grams.juice mix it with some juice and let it sit so the powder can soak and not be all clumpy and then just down it and wait 30 minutes and you should be good 🙂

      I was in kinda the same situation as you. Work found marijuana in a drug test and I was sent to rehab, I had to get off of clonazepam too after close to 25 years. It’s hard!! I usually slowly simmer the powder in water for about 3 hours. I add honey, lemon and mango syrup. Then I use a cheesecloth to strain it into a pitcher. Then pour over ice!

        You simmer the powder for 3 hours? Or do you get it up to simmer then take it off and let it sit for three hours? If you heat it too long it ruins the alkaloids in the Kratom.. You should look that up, that’s what I’ve always read..

      Recommend highly 10caps red vein,followed by 4-6 every 4 hrs. Fak big pharma and street drugs. This really works gal. I like to switch it up with gold Bali caps. The powder is a hard way to go

      Try white Bali. I have MS and many spine and joint damage. I take the white bali and its powerful! Start with a out 1/4 tsp. Take from there, trying different amounts until it suits you. Red Bali for severe pain of course. I don’t mix it. I space it out.
